I've been looking for an outer chrome windshield trim piece ever since I did the Hoppe Quadzilla mod. While at a local Motorcycle show (Easy Riders) I found a company called California Custom Cruiser that specialized in custom fabrications. They make stainless steele trims for the Quadzilla fairings.

Even though the Quadzilla looks great stock I felt it needed the trim to look "complete". After a few months I decided to place an order. They offer a few models and have both the inner and outer trims. I selected both.

Now the fun begins...

I received my trim package with this wicked bend in the middle, I thought this can't be good. Luckily when I pulled out the pieces they were bent but not creased. Cool.

I took off the windshield and started mounting the bolt trim, right to left. I get to the very last one and its about a 1/4" inch off! Now this was not CCC's fault, I had purchased a "shorty" windshield from them at the show and assumed the trim would fit too. My bad.

This is what I gather, I may be way off... hopefully someone can shed some light on this. It appears that the Hoppe Fairings made for the HD's and Yamaha's have a slightly different hole pattern then that made for the VTX. The VTX1800 Quadzilla fairing is "symmetrical".

The HD's/Yama's 1st left most hole is slightly closer to the edge. This means parts that are made specifically for that hole pattern will not work with the VTX1800's hole pattern. A mod is needed...

I had to file the existing hole approximately a 1/4" wider to the left. I didn't like the idea of hacking my fairing but at least the trim would hide the offset hole.

I will eventually install the rear windshield trim. I may have to do some additional grinding to get it in. I'm still debating if I want to install it or leave the black out back look.

One thing for certain, I will have to find a chrome washer for the rear to cover up the offset hole. The standard washers are not large enough. Look closely at the photo below, you can see the "gap" created by the widened hole.

The main reason I want to keep the rear of the fairing dark is to highlight the Digital Tach / SHIFT LED's setup I've installed. The chrome provides bling during the day and 32 programmable LED's moving to the engines beat at night.

Another note: the guys at California Custom Cruiser are cool to work with. They gave me the idea of the offset hole or I could send the whole setup back for a refund. If you want a custom one made specifically for your VTX Quadzilla setup they can do it for a fee and you'll have to wait at least a month to get it. All in all, I like the look and its a keeper (really don't have a choice) but you sure do.
