Even though a GPS unit is not considered a Cruiser accessory I found it to be invaluable when traveling unfamiliar roads and new destinations. The statistic screen is also a nice feature to have, showing accurate speed information at a convenient viewing location.

Note * I've found that my speedo is way off at the higher speeds. Traveling 115-117 on the VTX speedometer measured 105 on the GPS unit. The percent in difference varies with the speed.

I Added a Garmin Street Pilot III GPS to my VTX1800R due to the fact that we were taking longer road trips and longer stays in unfamiliar areas. Since installing this system I have never gotten lost...

I chose this particular model after talking with satisfied users. A few key features included independent battery source. This allows you to program the GPS waypoints without being connected to a external source. I found this feature extremely useful. Your able to take the unit into a restaurant, under a shady tree and program your route and destinations. Your not at the mercy of the VTX's battery source.

At the time of my purchase their were two newer Garmin Street Pilot's available. These models had more storage capacity and a few other features that the Garmin III did not provide. One of the features was "touch screen" input. I found this to be more of a hindrance more than a feature.

While driving a motorcycle down the road its much easier to "feel" the buttons of the Garmin III rather than try to see the touch points on the screen. The newer version of the Garmin Street Pilots no longer supports internal batteries, your tied to an external battery source.

More to come...
