I just did the stock exhaust mod on my new VTX 1800 Retro. I wanted to keep the "stock look" from the rear. Even though this is not a stock part it still has that factory look.

If it wasn't for my neighbor and his electric saw, it would have taken me a lot longer cutting the original rear plate off the baffle.

I started off with just 3 holes on the lower and upper pipes. Turned out that's all I wanted, the difference was amazing! It sounded great going through my exhaust mod screen.

I have about 3 different styles of screens that I came up with. I used the slanted version versus the flush to the rim style. This allowed me to anchor / wedge the end of the screen to the baffle when mounting. This method really secured the screen down. It also seemed to fit the style of the muffler tip.

I'm going to try different screen types with various heat ratings. I'll use an infared temperature meter to measure how hot the screen gets after a long ride. With the outdoor temperatures hitting +106 lately it will be a good time to do the tests.

I'm also concerned about the amount of airflow through the holes, future screens may have larger passages. I'll upload the different screens as I make them.

I used a cardboard cutout to get a general idea as to how I wanted the screens to fit. I then used a bandsaw to cut out the shapes then to a grinding stone for smoothing.
